This month, on March 8, we had the pleasure of welcoming Dr. Bruce Steffes to Memorial Christian Hospital. Dr. Steffes is the Chief Medical Officer of the Pan African Academy of Christian Surgeons (PAACS). PAACS is a strategic response to the need for surgeons in Africa. MCH is PAACS’ only non-African surgical residency. In June, 2014, Dr. Rajib Sharma had joined the PAACS family and began his surgical training at MCH under the mentoring of Dr. Kelley and Dr. Piovesan.
Dr. Steffes' visit this month gave both him and Dr. Sharma a chance to meet; Dr. Sharma also underwent an "under the knife" evaluation of his surgical progress. Dr. Steffes' five days with us were put to good use with several informal educational and informational meetings with the MCH surgeons, teaching opportunities with Dr. Sharma, and helping out in the operating room with several complex surgical patients. He returned home to North Carolina March 13th, to welcome his first grandson, due the end of this month.
